PhD position in Bioorganic Chemistry
Dept. Biomolecular Systems
Job offer from October 19, 2017
The GPI Group of the Biomolecular Systems Department is looking for a highly motivated PhD student in the area of chemical synthesis and biological evaluation of glycolipids and glycoproteins involved in parasite infection processes.
Many proteins are attached to the cell membrane of eukaryotic cells using glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchors, complex glycolipids added as a posttranslational modification to the C-terminus of the proteins. These glycolipids participate in the infections processes and in the regulation of the immune system in different diseases. Our group is actively working on the synthesis and biological evaluation of these molecules.
The PhD candidate will join our team and work on projects that involve (i) the development of new synthetic strategies to obtain complex GPIs, ii) the ligation of GPIs to synthetic peptides and iii) the evaluation of interactions of GPIs with proteins and antibodies and in vitro activation of different cell lines. The successful candidate will have an excellent academic track record and research experience in organic synthesis, carbohydrate chemistry and/or peptide synthesis.
We are a dynamic lab hosted by the Biomolecular Systems Department at Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Berlin, Dahlem. We offer excellent research facilities and friendly work environment. To apply, please send an application letter, two letters of recommendation, a summary of the Master thesis and your CV to Dr. Daniel Varon Silva (firstname.lastname@example.org)
