Powered by Peas
There is no doubt that the demand of animal-derived proteins has been rapidly increasing over the past few decades. However, with the growing public awareness of the negative environmental impacts of commercial farming, as well as health-related concerns from consuming meat and dairy, many consumers are looking for more sustainable and healthier alternatives.

Pea protein is a suitable alternative as a non-allergenic and more sustainable complete protein. Within this project, we are looking at methods for isolation and purification of proteins from different types of legume pulses, formulation of pea proteins into materials (foams, emulsions, composites, etc...) and applications of these materials in cooking or other related processes.

All you need is wood
Wood biomass is mainly constituted of cellulose, lignin and hemicellulose. As valorisation of cellulose and lignin is mainly achieved in industries, the hemicellulose can be converted into valuable materials even with simple cooking techniques. Simple sawdust can be cooked in basic solutions (i.e. in baking powder dissolved in water) to yield a brown gel containing chemicals useful for cosmetic application. Following our recipe, you will be able to prepare at home a perfect skin hydrating agent in just a few hours.
