Microscopy Characterisation of Organic-Inorganic Interfaces Meetings

Microscopy Characterisation of Organic-Inorganic Interfaces Meetings

Microscopy characterisation of organic-inorganic interfaces is a two-day meeting, dedicated to microscopy of materials comprised of both organic and inorganic constituents (in close proximity) and aimed at bringing together experts from both the life science and materials science communities to address this challenging and increasingly important topic.

Different approaches such as the application of correlative microscopy solutions, low-voltage and cryogenic electron microscopy techniques, methods for fast acquisition and many more are discussed during the meeting in the context of studying hybrid materials.

The meeting was first organised in 2016 at Queen Mary University of London (London, UK) under the umbrella of the Royal Microscopical Society. In response to the high interest from the microscopy community the scientific committee decided to reshape the meeting introducing a two-day format, which successfully ran since 2017.

The first day of the meeting is dedicated to different microscopy techniques that are used to study hybrid soft-hard interfaces. On the second, a set of lectures, called Focus Lecture Series, is held, giving an in-depth overview on one of the microscopy techniques, and usually co-organized with the leading institute in this field.

2016  - "Microscopy characterisation of organic-inorganic interfaces (QMUL, UK)

2017  - "Cryogenic preparation and imaging strategies for soft matter in materials science” (co-organizer the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel))

2018 - “In-situ liquid phase electron microscopy” (co-organizer Eindhoven University of Technology (The Netherlands))

2019 - “Advances in imaging beam sensitive materials in the transmission electron microscope” (co-organizer Ernst Ruska-Centre for Microscopy and Spectroscopy with Electrons, Forschungszentrum Jülich (Germany))

2021 (virtual) - "Scanning TEM as applied to Inorganic/Organic Systems/Interfaces” (co-organized jointly by University of Leeds (UK) and Queen Mary University of London(UK))

2022 (virtual) - "Advances in Analytical Cryo-Electron Microscopy: From sample preparation to data acquisition to data analysis” (co-organized jointly by Cornell University (US))
