General

Welcome to the Children’s Day Care Center of the Max Planck Campus in Golm. We would like to introduce you to our daycare facility, which opened July 2007. MPI staff members have the possibility to obtain day care for their children between the ages of 3 months and 3 years. Our facility is very flexible and matches the individual needs of the families. Through this adaptability, we want to improve the compatibility of family and career. Currently, the day care provider takes care of children from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, it is possible to change the times according to individual needs.

Places and Equipment
Our facility currently can accommodate fifteen children. Our day caregivers, Marina Eckert, Petra Stacker and Yvonne Kiesel, state registered child care workers, compassionately and attentively accompany the children through their first attempts at walking, speaking, and even the pains of teething. The premises have been redecorated and furnished, for the children to feel more comfortable and secure. Every childminder takes care of five children in a big and bright two-room appartment which offers much for children to see and discover. The appartments are just beside the Research Campus in the housing estate Storchen-/Schwalbenhof.

Financing
The daycare facility is funded by the three Max Planck Institutes, as well as the Jugendamt (youth welfare office) Potsdam. While the institutes take care of the equipment and the maintenance of the flat, the Jugendamt and the salary-dependent contributions of the parents fund the caregivers.
Parents who would like to enroll their child into our day care facility must meet the following conditions:
• One parent must work in one of the Max Planck Institutes
• The other parent must also work or be engaged in another activity (i.e. studying, language course, etc.) for at least six hours per day.
