Dr. Cristina Giordano from the Max-Planck-Institute of Colloids and Interfaces has been awarded the Richard-Zsigmondy-Scholarship for her excellent scientific qualification. The award ceremony for the young Italian materials scientist of the Department of Colloid Chemistry will take place at the 25th Conference and the 45th General Assembly of the Joint German Colloid Society on September 6th, 2011.

Dr. Cristina Giordano, group leader at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, received the Richard Zsigmondy Award 2011 of the German Colloid Society. The Prize honours the work of the best young academic at the beginning of an independent career working in the area of colloid and interface science.
Cristina Giordano was awarded for her work devoted to a versatile synthetic route towards metal nitride and metalcarbide nanostructures. The enthusiastic work made by her group in the last four years has brought the generation of a variety of otherwise challenging nanoceramics by sustainable approaches. Here systems are currently tested for magnetic contrast agents, as highly active catalysts, as electrodes in energy systems, and for the mechanic protection of surfaces.
Richard-Zsigmondy-Scholarship
The Colloid Society honours young scientists with the Richard-Zsigmondy-Scholarship. Scholarship for their excellent scientific qualification; they should intent to continue their work in the area of the colloid chemistry or related disciplines.
