Poly(ionic liquids) as binders for next-generation electrochemical systems

As collaboration partners in the HELIS (High Energy Lithium Sulphur batteries) consortium and Maxnet Energy organization, we are committed to the development of next-generation energy devices.  Current focus is geared towards the development of novel binder systems and membranes required for promoting longevity, improving performance, and lowering production costs. As well, we combine these worthy goals with an approach that seeks to understand the nature of their performance to better guide our research. We have currently demonstrated that through the implementation of novel poly(ionic liquids) (PIL) binder systems, we can dramatically extend the operational performance of lithium-sulfur batteries and improve the efficiency of the oxygen-evolution reaction.
