Postdoc (Carbon for Electrosensing)

Stellenangebot vom 12. Januar 2021

The Director of the Department of Colloid Chemistry at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Prof. M. Antonietti, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a background in physics, chemistry, or materials science and engineering.

The Postdoc will study carbon-based electrosensors in line with the goals of the “New-Carbonization Concepts and sensors” group. We are interested in finding new inexpensive ways to produce highly sensitive and selective sensor platforms with the aim of being able to use mass data to measure environmental influences on our health. To this end, we use our in-house developed carbon laser-patterning (CLaP) technique to create new inexpensive and eco-friendly sensor architectures.

Job overview
The position is open for joining the “New carbonization concepts and sensing” group. The candidate will work on the preparation and electronic analysis of new laser-patterned carbonaceous materials for their application as electrosensors. The physical or engineering side of the project includes the design and implementation of new experiment setups, while the materials science component entails the design, fabrication, and characterization of new electrode materials.

Knowledge, skills, experience
We are looking for a highly motivated, well-organized Postdoc, ready to explore new avenues in science. In the department of Colloids Chemistry you find an interdisciplinary team dedicated to research in a broad spectrum of topics, thus, we are looking for a candidate being able to follow a collaborative research approach. Applicants should have a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Experience in designing electronic or electrochemical experiments as well as materials synthesis and characterization are of advantage. Proficient English skills are mandatory.

Employment conditions
A two years full-time postdoctoral research position starting from March 2021. Extensions based on performance are possible. Salary depends on qualifications and professional experience according to German collective wage agreement for government service workers (TVöD-Bund).

How to submit your application for this post
If you are an enthusiastic researcher and you want to join our team, please send:

  • a cover letter including a short statement presenting your research outlook and explaining how you fit in the job position,
  • a detailed resume including a list of your publications,
  • the names, email addresses, and telephone numbers of two references,
  • and one key publication from your past work

to Dr. Volker Strauss ().

Candidacies will be evaluated until the position is filled!
