We are currently seeking a motivated PhD student to join our group to work on the development of new photocatalytic synthetic methods enabling expedient access to molecularly complex organoboron systems. The successful candidate will join the Synthetic Methodology and Reaction Design group of Dr John J. Molloy in the Biomolecular Systems Department located at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam.

Guided by preliminary mechanistic investigations, the project will involve the design and application of new boron species to promote photo-induced electron transfer or energy transfer in small organic molecules. Harnessing this reactivity, the focus will be on developing operationally simple protocols which allow the rapid formation of structurally complex, biologically relevant scaffolds from simple accessible precursors.

The ideal candidate will have a Masters in Chemistry and a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry. Additional expertise in photochemistry and the manipulation of organoboron species will be advantageous.
