The Department of Colloids Chemistry (Director Prof. Dr. M. Antonietti) at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam, Germany invites applications from outstanding young scientists for the position of a PhD student (m/f/d) in the field of material science.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student in the field of materials science who is passionate about both physical chemistry and nanoscale characterization of materials. The candidate should have a degree in Chemistry/Materials Science or closely related fields, with an outstanding profile, a strong background and interests in

  • Synthesis and high-end structural characterization of carbon-based materials using transmission electron microscopy and/or spectroscopy techniques
  • Relate nanoscale characteristics with the physical properties of studied carbon-based materials both ex-situ and in-situ analysis under external stimuli inside the transmission electron microscope
  • Application of advanced scanning transmission electron microscopy techniques for chemical and electronic structure evaluation at the atomic scale
