Cluster of giant vesicles |
Few Words about Giant Vesicles In the last decade, giant vesicles were the objects that fascinated and, at times, surprised me. These giants are only few tens of microns in size but are quite a handy tool for studying the mechanical properties of lipid bilayers. Compared to conventional vesicles (unilamellar or multilamellar, with tens of nanometers in radius) our giants have the advantage of being observable by optical microscopy. Hence, physical characteristics of the membrane can be obtained from working with individual vesicles (for more information check this review). |
