Rules in the lab
0) ASSOCIATES OF THE MEMBRANE LAB (AMLs) are (i) associates of the theory department who perform experimental work or (ii) students who are supervised by such associates. |
1) Each piece of equipment has a COORDINATOR who is an AML. The name and telephone number of the the COORDINATOR is indicated on each of the instruments. The coordinator looks after the instrument and coordinates the experiments done with this instrument. In case an AML notices a problem with an instrument, he/she notifies the corresponding coordinator who is responsible for taking care of the problem. If the coordinator cannot solve the problem he/she contacts RD. If RD cannot solve the problem she notifies RL. |
2) If an AML wants to use one of the instruments 1-6, 9 and 10, he/she talks to the corresponding COORDINATOR in order to reserve some time slot(s) for these measurements. The coordinator handles these requests and ensures that the user is familiar with the rules for using and cleaning the corresponding equipment. The reserved time slots should be recorded in a timetable which is located at the instrument. Using instruments 7, 11-13 and 17 also requires reserving a time slot in the attached timetables. If a conflict arises, the coordinator talks to RD. If RD can't handle this conflict, she talks to RL. |
3) Guest researchers who do not belong to the membrane lab but want to use some instrument of this lab need a HOST who is an AML. The host is responsible for the 'performance' of his/her guests in the lab. If the host is not the coordinator, he/she acts according to rule 2). |
4) Experimental activities by guests should be in the interest of the theory department. Test measurements are allowed but the guests would also need a host. |
5) In case a new product or a piece of equipment arrives in the lab, the person who signs the delivery note should notify by e-mail all the rest of the AMLs about the delivery. The purpose of new devices should be explained at a following group meeting. |
6) Each AML is required to enter his/her name in the timetable for cleaning the lab. The instructions for this activity are indicated on the door of lab U.119. AMLs who use instruments in lab 0.115 should clean BOTH labs on his/her due date. |
