Using high-precision laser-patterning techniques, we investigate novel carbonization and modification methods for the targeted production of electronic components based on sustainable starting compounds. For example, we use pre-condensed percursors with special chemical properties for the direct, controlled synthesis and assembly of electronically conductive carbon networks on various substrates.

We elucidate kinetic reaction mechanisms based on the interplay between precursor properties and reaction conditions and develop concepts for selective modification of the chemical, structural and electronic properties of the resulting carbon composite materials. Based on these fundamental findings, we develop prototypes for electronic and electrochemical components for flexible and/or transient electronics such as printed semiconductors, sensors, electrocatalysts and energy or charge storage.
