Small, but mighty

Research rating in chemistry by the German Science Council (Wissenschaftsrat) showed: Chemical research at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces is excellent

January 10, 2008

The Potsdam Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces is the only institution situated in Berlin and the new states, which was evaluated excellent in the categories research quality and efficiency. Together with the MPI of Coal Research in Mühlheim an der Ruhr the institute achieved the top score of 5.0 in research quality.

The first research rating of the German Science Council (Wissenschaftsrat) resulted in an assessment for chemical research in Germany considering 57 universities and 20 nonuniversity institutes. The detailed and differentiated results for the fields of research performance, promotion of young scientists and researchers, and knowledge transfer make it possible to better recognise the strengths and weaknesses of individual research units, including their performance in comparison with others. For this first pilot study the German Science Council assessed the achieved performances from 2001 till 2005.
