This lecture will describe my lab’s inroads in non-equilibrium systems. Using large peptide rings, we have investigated the “butterfly effect” that occurs when a small change at a given position of a molecule results in disproportional consequences at distal positions. Building on these findings, we have developed the dominant rotor concept, which allows us to create systems with unusual 3D shapes. Our work underscores that operations away from equilibrium offer a possibility to control complex molecules. [more]
