New Carbonization Concepts

The biggest hurdle for the use of ecologically sustainable electronic products and chemical processes is often the difficult access to sustainable raw materials. In order to close existing sustainability gaps in industrial processes in the future, we are researching novel methods for the production of functional materials for electronic processes. Modern carbon materials are among the most promising alternatives for a range of future applications in electronics, optoelectronics and catalytic systems. On an industrial scale, however, very complex and expensive manufacturing processes and a lack of control over material parameters usually hamper their use.

On the way from the condensation of biomolecules to functional components, a variety of reactions lead to a wide range of functional units within such carbon compounds. Therefore, we aim to understand such complex reaction sequences in order to identify new targeted synthetic routes for functional compounds. On the one hand, precise manufacturing methods using laser synthesis help us to investigate complex carbonization processes in a targeted manner and thus to better understand them. On the other hand, we have the opportunity to tailor new types of functional materials for electronic applications.
