International Conference about „Molecular Motors“ in Potsdam

Three-day symposium „Multiscale Motility of Molecular Motors“ from 23.-25. September 2013 in the Potsdam-Golm Science Park

Transport processes in the cells of our body resemble the transport of goods on roads, although the nanoworld of cells is dominated by fluctuations. Molecular motors, which are special protein molecules, act as trucks and know how to direct everything. In this way molecular motors power many essential processes of life, from transporting cargoes in cells to processing the genetic information. Their functions are based on movements on many time and length scales, ranging from the sub-molecular to the cellular scale.

Experts from all over the world inform about recent advances in understanding the function and the dynamics of molecular motors. Central topics of the meeting are dynamics of single motors, cooperative transport by motor teams and information-processing motors (polymerases, ribosomes). The international scientists from the USA, Israel, India, Sweden, France and Germany come together in Potsdam-Golm Science Park to discuss the latest research developments. Organizer is the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces.
